Article: 5.3-К-04
Name: Empress Anna Ioannovna with arapon
Sculptor: Kuznetsov Eugeny
Size: 54мм
Material: white metal, acrylic
Description: The figure is based on the sculptural work of the outstanding sculptor and caster of the 18th century Bartolomeo Carlo Rastrelli. The original is made in full size and is located in the Mikhailovsky Palace. This unique piece of Russian monumental plastic art was created from 1732 to 1741 and was intended for staging in front of the new (Third) Winter Palace. However, the death of Anna Ioannovna in 1740 and the accession to the Russian throne by Empress Elizabeth Petrovna prevented the implementation of this plan. "Anna Ioannovna with an araponchik" is a rare example of a coronation ceremonial portrait in sculpture. The greatness of the appearance of the empress does not hide the masterfully conveyed personal characteristics, thanks to which the work of Rastrelli became a kind of symbol of the difficult and oppressive time that went down in the history of Russia as the era of Bironism.
